For the monitor bezel I used a 3/16" sheet of glass I bought from a local glass dealer. I needed a 26"x26" sheet, and they cut it for me and even beveled the edges so they weren't sharp. They charged me $15 for it and it seemed like a good deal for the quality I got. I masked off the area around the monitor and painted the backside with flat black spray paint. It came out very nice. It won't matter what type of black you use, the glass side gives it a high glossy look and looks great.
Later I decided to put this MAME Shortcut sheet, I made with Word, behind the glass because it was a pain to clean the glass around it when it was taped to the frontside. Plus it looks a lot better now.
